Nottingham is in full revel. The market is alive. The taverns are singing. The tournament field is roaring. And one very important problem remains.
The Sheriff wants to control the revel. Robin Hood wants you to enjoy it.
That simple rivalry runs throughout Fall Fling — in the lanes, at Nottingham Square, in the joust, and in the people you meet along the way.
An old public tradition
The Revel Charter
Long before the Sheriff began filing permits and counting coins, Nottingham celebrated under an old public tradition.
The Revel Charter.
It protects the people’s right to feast, shop, sing, gather, cheer, trade, toast, and make merry under public peace.
The Sheriff would very much prefer more rules. Robin Hood would prefer fewer. And as long as the revel continues, neither side gets everything they want.
The Sheriff wants rules. Robin wants revel. The village keeps the party alive.

A Day in Nottingham
The story happens around you all day. Join as much — or as little — as you like.

At the Gates
Prince John arrives and the Sheriff discovers that Robin Hood and the Merry Men may move freely through Nottingham for as long as the Revel holds. Guests are introduced to the conflict as the village opens.

Join the Procession
Robin Hood and the Sheriff are forced into an uneasy truce as Nottingham gathers and moves toward the tournament field. You may find yourself part of the procession.

Trouble in the Square
After the first tournament, tensions rise. Robin’s people taunt the Sheriff, Nottingham’s officials object, and another public dispute begins.

The Jousts

The rivalry follows guests onto the tournament field, where Robin and the Sheriff give the crowd someone to cheer for — and someone to boo.

As Day Turns to Night
As the sun lowers, Nottingham gathers again. The Sheriff may look for loopholes. The village usually finds another reason to keep celebrating.

The day ends where it began: with Nottingham still feasting, singing, and making merry.

You do not need a costume, a script, or any knowledge of Robin Hood lore to join in. Sometimes all Nottingham needs is one witness, one cheer, one suspicious citizen, or one person willing to tell a guard they definitely saw Robin go the other way.
